Axel Calls for a Boycott!

Oh bummer. We took some cool pics over the weekend, but Mom has misplaced the camera cable, so I can't post them until she finds them! She had the temerity to suggest that I hid it away somewhere as I do like burying stuff, but c'mon Mom, not camera cables! Give me some credit!

On Saturday Mom and I mailed off a box of goodies to the Montreal Wires - poor Mom stood in line at the Post Office for an hour, but she didn't mind at all. It made her happy to think of those wiry Canadians enjoying their gifts!

Speaking of gifts, I found out what Mom ordered me online for Chanukah! She forgets how techie I am - I checked the history on the computer and found the exact page confirming her purchase. Haha! Check it out, it's a WEASEL BALL!

"Scurrying weasel ball provides pets (and humans) with hours of furry fun! Flip his switch and this wild, wacky weasel jumps, rolls, scoots and darts from pillar to post. Pets especially will have the time of their lives trying to keep up with this rascally rodent!" How awesome! I can't wait to attack and kill it!

And now for an update on that tale of stupidity and ridiculousness concerning a disabled dog owner Mrs. McMahan living in a condo in CA who gets fined everytime she takes her spaniel outdoors through the lobby flouting condo rules that pets be carried. McMahan's appeal of the homeowners' association no-walk rule was denied. Now she says she will take her complaint to the state Department of Fair Employment and Housing. You go girl! And by the way, do you know what the homeowner's association's defense was for their dumb policy? And I quote, "A lot of elderly people live in the building, and a dog can jump up on them and they can get tangled in the leash." Oh Puhlease! Surely you jest?!

On an altogether more serious note - I was watching Survivor final last night (yawn) when Mom switched to CNN's Larry King Live. It was all about China's fur trade - in domestic cats and dogs! Thankfully Mom couldn't stand to watch it, it made her cry - but I saw enough to be very very upset and disturbed to think of the "millions of dogs and cats in China [who] are being bludgeoned, hanged, bled to death, and strangled with wire nooses so that their fur can be turned into trim and trinkets. This fur is often deliberately mislabeled as fur from other species and is exported to countries throughout the world to be sold to unsuspecting customers in retail stores. China supplies more than half of the finished fur garments imported for sale in the United States, so the bottom line is that because dog and cat fur is so often mislabeled, if you're buying fur, there's no way to tell whose skin you're wearing. " (Source:Fur is Dead)

There is something we can all do: write to the Chinese ambassador urging China to enact an animal welfare law that will stop the cruel handling of dogs, cats, and other animals. Click here to email His Excellency Zhou Wenzhong, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China or fax him at 202-328-2582.

However, may I be so bold as to suggest that a more effective protest would be to WITHDRAW the US Olympic team from the 2008 Olympic Games to be held in Beijing, China! A country who exploits and murders millions of innocent animals does not deserve to host an international event of this magnitude. I, Axel G Chocholoza, call on all civilized nations to BOYCOTT THE GAMES until China stops this abomination!

There, I said it!
